Working at Height - Basic Course

Key Standards

- Participant minimum Age: 18 years.
- Maximal Student / Instructor Ratio:  8:1 (indoor), 6:1 (outdoor).
- Minimum Instructor Level: Authorized IRAA* Rope Access Level 2 in teaching status .
   * or equivalent.
- Course location: Certified IRAA Education Center.
- Course duration: min. 7 hours (1hr Theory / 6hrs practical applications).
   Theory can be completed in classroom, online and/or hybrid. 
- Written Theory Exam: Yes.

 

Minimum Performance Requirements

Theory
- Legal basics
- PPE against fall equipment
- Rules for storing and controlling PPE before use
- Fall hierarchy
- Planning of works at height
- Fall mechanisms (danger of a pendulum falling, falling from a working position, fall space)
- Correct choice of attachment points
- The "STOP! in case of danger" philosphy 
- Medical aspects
- Rescue 

Practical applications:
- Correct donning of safety harnesses
- Wearing and adjusting PPE correctly
- Hanging experiment  feeling of "hanging trauma" (hanging intoxication)
- System prioritization
   1st restraint,
   2nd positioning,
   3rd fall arrest system
   (taking into account the working requirments of the participants)
- Fall physics with practical experiments on: impact force, slack rope and pendulum
- Practical workshops: right/wrong situations, work preparation, risk identification, anchorage solutons,
- Climbing protection systems and working on poles
- permanent and temporary lifeline systems
- Simple downwards rescues
- Additional possible work situations:
   Working in depth with PPE
   Working on trees with work positioning
   Working on ladders
   Working in elevation baskets
   etc.
